5 of the Filthiest Places to Avoid on Airplanes

As we head into cold and flu season, I was most interested in this headline I read in the Time Health newsletter this week. http://bit.ly/2r6WFq7.  In general, as nurse advocates and health & wellness coaches, we always emphasize the need for cold and flu precautions at this time of year (stay tuned for that upcoming blog). Stress & Procrastination- Also Known As Open Enrollment

It’s that time of year again!  Health Insurance Open Enrollment.  Most people fall into two categories here:

Those who stress over all of the mail and notices about their upcoming Open Enrollment Season, and those who merely procrastinate, can’t believe it is that time of year again and never bother to check and just (if they can) let things remain status quo.

Here at Healthlink Advocates. we try to stay on top of the latest medical news so that our clients are informed and protected. As a nurse patient advocate, I continue to be amazed at the drug manufacturing side of things.

I read two news reports this week in Becker’s Hospital Review that caught my eye with the following headlines:

·      “Sanofi recalls heartburn drug over cancer risks”

We look at what “leaves” we need to let go of in order to improve our health and wellbeing.  It is a good time to reflect before the holiday festivities.

We continue to be dedicated to helping people navigate their health issues. Diabetes - the numbers are staggering....

In a recent report, there are an estimated 30.3 million Americans with Diabetes, which is 9.4% of the population.  Of the 30.3 million Americans with Diabetes, there are 23.1 million diagnosed and 7.2 million were not diagnosed. Each year 1.5 million people are diagnosed.  Diabetes remains the 7th leading cause of death in the United States.

You Must Be An Empowered Healthcare Consumer or Else...

It is almost every day as a nurse patient advocate that I read a news item about the healthcare system that astounds me.  It makes it clear to me that my role as an advocate for the vulnerable patient trying to navigate these unknown and complex waters of our healthcare system is so very important.

I recently read a press release about a California physician found guilty of a $12 million dollar Medicare fraud that involved upcoding Medicare claims and reusing contaminated catheters, this according to the Department of Justice.
